Gokyo Lakes Trek - A super alternative to classic Everest Base Camp Trek!
The stunning, pristine and green lakes of Gokyo beneath the towering Himalayas are probably the best sight that you can witness in Nepal. These superb combination allows you to experience something that will last forever in your memory.
Gokyo Lakes Trek is perfect for those who wish to trek in the Everest region but wants diverse experience and fewer nights spent at high altitude. Escaping the mainstream trail, you will walk through fascinating trail with beautiful valleys, turquoise-tinted lakes, magnificent glaciers and great Himalayan views.
A pre-sunrise hike from Gokyo village to the viewpoint offers dramatic view of northwest face of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Makalu - five peaks above 8,000m. In addition, you will witness the grand Ngozumpa Glacier and the ice-fields from which it flows.
From Lukla, the gateway to Everest and Gokyo Valley, you will walk uphill through Namche, Dole, Phortse, Gokyo and Gokyo Ri. Due to varied elevation, you will be able to discover diverse landscapes and the life flourishing init. The rare species like Musk Deer, Wild Mountain Goat, Lophophorus (national bird of Nepal), Snow Leopard, Mountain Hawk and snow duck can be discovered on a forest trail to Gokyo Lakes .
Walking along the snout of Ngozumpa Glacier, you will finally reach Gokyo Valley. Here you will be delighted with the superb view of glacial-originated lakes. Gokyo Ri Peak (5,357m), another tempting location, offers magnificent 360 degree view of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Pumori, Lingtren, Chola Peak, Machherma Peak, Ama Dablam and more.
Apart from HImalayan views, you will get the close peek of Sherpa’s culture and traditions. A perfect blend of Nepalese Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism can be observed on a traditional village, monasteries, prayer flags and mani wall that was built centuries ago.
